Botox In a Nutshell
What is it?
Who is it for?
Botox is a neuromodulator, meaning it blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles. Once injected, Botox stops your muscles from contracting, thus softening fine lines and wrinkles
Any one looking to:
-
to soften fine lines, wrinkles
-
create a lip flip
-
reduce gum show
-
correct asymmetries
-
slim the jaw
-
prevent dimpling in the chin.
How It Works
As we get older, we develop fine lines and wrinkles due to constant muscle contraction overtime (frowning, raising our eyebrows etc.), and the loss of elasticity in our skin. Botox works by relaxing the muscles in the face which cause those fine lines and wrinkles. Botox can also be used to create a more open look to the eye, to raise the brow or correct asymmetries like uneven eyebrows. Many choose to get botox “preventatively” because they know they frown, squint or raise their eyebrows more frequently than they’d like.
Botox is a neurotoxin derived from Clostridium botulinum, an organism found in our natural environment. There are a few different versions of this neurotoxin, but we use Botox exclusively. It has the longest history of use, is the most widely used on the market, and has more published papers about its safety and efficacy than any other toxin. There’s a reason it’s the “kleenex” of neurotoxins.
Injection technique has come a long way in the last 20 years. Our goal is soften the look of fine lines and wrinkles without creating a “frozen look.” Sure, there are still some individuals after this aesthetic, but more and more we are giving “micro doses” to our patients. You still have movement and expression in your face, but it’s softer, less intense. We also start with a small dose, and work our way up if we have to. Giving you a natural look is always our main priority.
The Procedure
Botox is a very simple, safe, and effective treatment. The procedure takes about 10-15 minutes and there is no downtime. You can return to your regular activities immediately following treatment. Many patients come in over their lunch break.
Our expert MD injector will disinfect the area to be treated, you will then be asked to make various facial expressions, such as frowning or squinting, after which your provider will administer small injections to the appropriate muscle locations with a very fine micro needle. Most of our patients experience no pain with Botox injections.
Botox has become very widespread as an anti-aging injectable, however at MD Beauty Clinic we can’t stress enough how important the expertise of your provider is. Your injector’s experience, expertise, and technique is what will give you the best result. Our injectors are mentored both by our expert plastic surgeons and trained extensively by the company whose product they’re injecting. It’s important to know that while injectables can provide a fantastic result, some conditions require surgery. At MD Beauty Clinic, if that’s the case, we can refer you to a plastic surgeon. In other clinics where there is no surgeon, the patient may be recommended more injectables, which won’t end in the best result.
Is Botox for you?
Botox is a fantastic treatment but it’s not for everyone. It’s indicated mostly for the upper part of the face, and does not address sagging or volume loss. We use filler for that.
We highly recommend that you book an in-person complimentary consultation with one of our MD injectors in order to discuss your aesthetic goals, and assess whether this is the right treatment for you. Your treatment will always be 100% customized to you and your goals. No two faces are alike, so no two treatment plans are alike, either.
Who should not have Botox?
You should not have Botox if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you are allergic to onabotulinum toxin A or any of the ingredients in Botox, or if you are allergic to lidocaine. If you have had an allergic reaction to Dysport, you are most likely also allergic to Botox.
Also, certain facial attributes may not be conducive with Botox treatment, such as: ptosis (drooping upper eyelid), ectropion (drooping lower eyelid away from the eye), entropion (lower eyelid is turned inward), you have deep facial scars, thick facial skin, infections or other problems at the site of injection, or if you have weak muscles in the areas being treated.
When can I expect to see results?
You can expect to see initial results of Botox treatment within 3-5 days, and a complete result within 14 days. We always book a follow up appointment for you at the two week mark to assess how the dosage has settled. If you need a tweak, we do it right then and there.
Will I need more than one treatment?
The results of Botox last for approximately 3 to 4 months. We recommend that you repeat treatment every 3 months in order to maintain your result. However, it is totally fine to have longer intervals between treatments. You may also discontinue Botox at any time. If you do so, the treated area will return to the way it looked before treatment.
Are there any side effects?
There is no downtime when it comes to Botox. Some patients may experience a bit of redness or a tiny bruise at the injection site, however this is very small, can be easily concealed with makeup and should resolve itself soon after treatment.
How much does it cost?
Botox costs $12/unit for most treated areas. The price of your individualized treatment will be assessed upon consultation.

I started seeing Avni nearly two years ago for injections, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’m extremely nervous when it comes to injecting anything into my face, and from the onset, she made me feel comfortable and at ease. Her professionalism is second to none- she explains everything in detail, all while bearing the brunt of my neurotic worries (thanks Avni!) She is honest, friendly and genuine which results in the best treatment for her clients. I would recommended her to anyone!
Rebekkah
I’ve been coming to the MD Beauty Clinic for more than a couple years. I wish everyone who wanted work done would come here. I can always be assured nobody knows I’ve had anything done. Because of their trusting hands, I feel more beautiful, a better version of myself, more confident about how I look and I’m always told I look mid 30’s instead of 50. I’m lucky to have found them and wouldn’t go anywhere else. I have the utmost trust in how the clinic is run, the advice I receive, how I’m treated as a client and what my results look like.

I have been seeing nurse Avni for botox for about 2 years now and each time my results are amazing! Avni is fantastic! She is very educated, always has a welcoming persona and helps also that she has a great sense of humor as I m always a bit nervous of needles. Recently I decided to get my lips done and I LOVE the results! Avni know exactly what amount to use to enhance my features and also look natural at the same time. I feel and look younger, rested and hydrated. Also I need to mention that all the staff at the plastic surgery clinic are welcoming, knowledgeable and experienced.
